Hey you, Get your mitts off my hard work!

I probably shouldn't write a post in anger but I'm going to anyway. I, like all you bloggers out there, work very hard on my blog. It takes time and effort and yes money too. I appreciate each and everyone of you who takes the time to read what I write.

What I do not appreciate is thieves who take content without permission and peddle it as their own. This is unnacceptable and is as far as I know illegal. I won't say where because the person in question does not deserve any more traffic. No doubt if they are stealing my content they are probably stealing other peoples too but I am doing my damndest to get them shut down.

I will say a big thank you to the girl who took the time out her day to let me know about this. I won't mention your name (unless you want me too, you deserve a massive shout out!) to protect her privacy but seriously, thank you.

I am now going to have to spend the next god knows how long watermarking old pics and taking cope/ paste off my blog.

Oh and if you're reading this? Write your own damn content.

  1. OMG are you serious? That's horrible! Have you contacted them? Maybe email them the link to this post and also while watermarking your pics write up a policy where you can say that all pics and content here are your own and can't be used without permission.

  2. Yeah, I had this, two websites were stealing my posts and pictures. Watermarking takes bloody ages and I find it so annoying, but I have to do it if I don't want to let them get away with it. Incidentally both blogs removed my content after I got in touch with their hosts, one website is now completely off the internet, so it can be done. Let me know if you need help with the details. x

  3. Oh god, that's awful. The anonymity of the Internet makes some people complete arseholes, doesn't it? Really hope you succeed in getting them shut down x

You're kidding Anita! So pleased you managed to get them shut down. I really appreciate the offer of help. I honestly haven't been this angry about anything in living memory!! x

  5. Thank you Hannah. People seem to think it's not stealing because it's on a screen x

  6. Aw no! Are they stealing your entire post and the pictures? That's ridiculous! I've just added that no right click thing to my blog too. I'd be fuming aswell xx

  7. Hey Smoosh-kissxx, I don't suppose I could be really cheeky and ask what code you use? The code I've tried didn't work :-( I'm desperate to add it after this! xx

  8. I think it was several bloggers contacting the host at the same time that did it. The other site they contacted me to say they thought I'd be happy to get more traffic as they did actually link back to my blog, but still, it was without my permission, so when I pointed that out, they just removed everything and stopped copying my posts. I'd be very interested in the html code for disabling copy+paste as nothing I've tried worked so far. x

  9. I watermark everything. I don't want people taking my images without permission, but if they do... well yeah, it drives traffic to my site.

  10. Ugh! How infuriating. I haven't had that happen to me yet (that I know of), but I would be beyond ticked if it did.

  11. Watermarks take a long time, but i've seen too many cases of content thievery so I started putting some on my pics. I really want to bash this person for you, but you're smart in saying that it would only bring her more traffic. If you ever need us to help report or something, let us know! I absolutely HATE these kinds of people!

  12. Hey I found this website and tried the ‘disable copy and paste’ part to my blog which worked. I didn’t realise that people do this so thank you for posting and I’m sorry it happened to you. Watermarking sounds like so much effort but hopefully this at least can act as a deterrent.

  14. I've tried smoosh_kissxx's link and that works well. Plus try this for disabling your pictures opening in a new window where they can still be copied from even if you disable right-click: http://www.designsbyrs.com/2009/01/14/blogspot-101-keep-your-photos-from-opening-when-people-left-click-on-them/
