I was so excited to try this sample out and I desperately
wanted to love it. The idea of a cleanser that removes everything in one go
(yes even your eye makeup) whilst being non drying is very appealing. Sadly I
do not get on with this at all.
The oil itself is relatively light weight, it isn’t thick or
goopy. It does have a scent but it’s quite faint, just a sort of clean
medicinal fragrance. You simply massage in onto dry skin including the eye area
and then add a little water to let it emulsify. Then just rinse off and voila!
Makeup is gone! If I’ve worn particularly heavy eye makeup that day I sometimes
have to go back with a little extra for the eyes but it’s still quicker and
easier than using a separate eye makeup remover.
It doesn’t sting my eyes, it doesn’t dry out my skin. It’s
so quick and easy to use. Sounds perfect doesn’t it?
No.
This sample lasted me about 2 weeks. After day one I had a
huge spot on the side of my nose (I only ever normally get spots on my chin).
Day two it had a little friend on my jaw line. It continued on like this until
eventually I had to concede it was the cleanser to blame. As soon as I stopped
using it the blemishes disappeared again. Le Sigh.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the culprit may have been
the mineral oil which appears first on the list of ingredients. This is a
little surprising for a product that costs £28 for the full 150ml bottle. I
still love the idea of using a cleansing oil and will be trying out the MAC
version (it’s mineral oil free) in future. But this product has disappointed me.
I won’t be purchasing the full size x

Ah thats a shame, I hate it when a product dosent live up to expectations. I use a similar product sometimes called Aquatrol, by Environ skin care. its great for removing all make up etc, but I do then use a cleanser after to remove all traces of the oil. I know thats not the idea but it makes my skin feel squeeky clean then lol

I maybe should have clarified in the post, I use another face wash after removing my makeup (like you I like feeling squeaky clean lol) x
DeleteI hate that when a product breaks you out. I bought something new recently that did that. Barely used it :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm just pleased it was a sample size rather than the full bottle! x
DeleteI've never found a cleansing oil which I like that hasn't made me break out - so I've never got beyond a sample size! Haven't tried the MAC one, so fingers crossed it works for you. x
ReplyDeleteI guess they maybe aren't for everyones skin :-( I do I hope I find one that doesn't break me out though as I love the concept! x
DeleteI like shu uemura's cleansing oil(s) but I don't find it justified to spend the amount of $ on a mineral based product. They don't break me out, I just refuse to pay the insane mark-up for such ingredients. :P
ReplyDeletecheers,

Agreed, that's why I was so shocked to see it on the ingredients list. You expect better for the price! x
DeleteI had one of those samples from a monthly box wotsit. It was okay - certainly nothing wrong with it that I remember, but nothing outstanding either, and for the $$$ and considering its base is mineral oil, I wouldn't bother lashing out for a full size.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind the price so much if it weren't for the mineral oil. Just smacks a bit of a rip off doesn't it? x
DeleteI'd recommend giving the Origins cleansing oil a crack; they're usually pretty cool about giving decent samples.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember it was about £15/250ml too, mine's lasted so long I can't remeber now!

Fab! Thanks for the recommendation :-) I don't mind paying for it if it works x
DeleteHave you tried DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil? It uses olive oil as a base, so you shouldn't have any problems there, and for me it really does remove everything (sometimes I have to take a cotton bud to my lash line to get liner out of there). I love it and totally recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI've used DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil in the past, and it works fantastically. It uses olive oil as a base so you shouldn't have problems there, and it really does remove most of your makeup (sometimes I have to wipe my lash line with a q-tip to get stubborn liner). I totally recommend it!
ReplyDelete(I may have posted this twice because I'm not sure if it went hrough the last time, if so please disregard!)
I have had good experiences with olive oil based cleansers in the past so it definitely sounds like something I should try out! Thank for the recommendation :-) x
