Next up in my series reviewing UK high street BB creams is a
pretty weird version from L’Oreal. First up does it meet my BB cream criteria?
Well it has SPF12 which I suppose is better than nothing. Ialso claims to have
up to 24 hour hydration and ‘all the benefits of skin care with the perfecting
properties of makeup’. Sounds like a BB cream to me!
I say weird because when it comes out of the tube it looks,
well, weird. See for yourself.
This apparently contains ‘smart pigment’ capsules which are
those little grey beads suspended in a very runny white lotion. As you rub it
into the skin, and you do need to rub it in, the capsules burst releasing the
pigment. It’s a bit gimmicky and it looks cool but I do not like it. They feel
slightly rough on the skin and if I have any dry flaky patches the rubbing
action combined with the beads seems to make the flakies worse. Yum.
Here it is blended in. You can see it has quite a sheen to it.
Very quickly it changes from a white fluid with grey bits
into a rather orange toned tinted moisturiser style coverage. I have this in
the lightest shade Fair skin Tone but it is definitely too dark and too orange
for me. It’s actually pretty good when I have a bit of fake tan on but I look distinctly
Oompa Loompa when I wear it over my
natural skin tone. It seems to keep getting darker for a few minutes after I
apply it.
As for the finish it does look like bare skin as it
promises, just a slightly more evened out (and orange) version of bare skin.
This is probably the lightest coverage of the BB creams I’ve tried thus far. It
is quite hydrating although dry skins may want an extra moisturiser underneath
and the finish is really quite dewy. I really do need to powder over it. This doesn’t
last particularly long on me at all but the fading isn’t overly noticeable just
because the coverage is so light.
In short this isn’t one that I would recommend although it
does seem to have quite good reviews on the Boots website so maybe I’m alone in
this. It costs £9.99 and comes in two
shades x

I just can't get on with BB creams for everyday wear - I like my heavy coverage stuff too much! I do want to get one for holidays though, so I'll be reading through all your review posts :)
ReplyDeleteI've been weaning myself onto lighter coverage. One thing that works really well for me if setting them with a mineral foundation. Then you get pretty good coverage and it makes it a better colour match for me. Hope you like the reviews! x
DeleteI'm not surprised you didn't like this bb cream! It's probably a bit moisturising for you but for my dry skin I like it. It's a little dark for me too but with a bit of powder on it, its fine :) I think it will be lovely for holiday and for those who don't normally wear make up :)
ReplyDeleteGlad it works for you Rachel :) Just goes to show how differently products work on different peoples skin. I think I may well be in the minority with not liking this product x
DeleteI had a foundation that was like this, the weird white stuff that "adapted" to your skin colour. Did not like it at all, so I won't be getting this BB cream for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'ma always sceptical of products that claim to adapt to your skin tone. I just don't think they can! I'd give this one a miss personally x
DeleteHi Claire, Apparently "Boots reviews" are not what they seem in that they are not genuine customers who purchased the products but selected people sent the product free to review.
ReplyDeleteOnce received these people submit a review which of course would mostly be a rave as they would wish to continue receiving free products to review.
They are called a "panel".
You are not alone with this Claire as I did try this Maybelline BB cream on my hand at Superdrug and the fair was very orangey and very dark for the term "fair". Awful stuff imho !!
All the best !
Hi again Claire, my post just now meant to say L'Oreal BB cream not Maybelline BB cream. Sorry about that. Hope you can rectify it.
ReplyDeleteAll the best again !!
Hi there! A "panel"? That seems a bit sneaky... I have no problem with people reviewing products they are sent (I have done so myself in the past) but on the Boots site it is made to look as though all the reviews are coming from genuine paying customers. To me that is very misleading! Thank you for a very useful and thought provoking comment! x
Deletenot available over here. um. me don't seem interested to try either, esp after your review :P
ReplyDeletehehe
cheers,
