MAC Cleanse Off Oil

You know me, if I can find something that will take off my makeup faster with less steps then I am bound to jump on it. The fact is when it gets to bed time and I’m sleep walking down the corridor I can’t be arsed with a million and one steps. Hence my fascination with cleansing oils. I love the idea of a cleanser that can deal with my face and eye makeup in one fell swoop. I tried the Shu Uemura version which broke me out horrendously, I suspect the mineral oil in might have been to blame? Thankfully this version from MAC does not contain mineral oil. And after a month of use hasn’t broken me out either!

Now at £18 for 150ml (a smaller bottle is available) it definitely costs more than I would typically spend on skincare but as I said I’ve been using this for a month and I’m barely an 8th of the way through the bottle. Incidentally I really like the bottle. The clear plastic and pump look sleek and it is very functional.

I need 1 pump for my entire face and eyes. The oil is almost colourless and has no fragrance that I can detect. You simply massage it into dry skin, taking a couple of extra seconds around the eyes. Then you wet your hands and massage again. The water emulsifies the oil and it breaks up into a milky fluid (ooh er) rinsing off taking all your makeup with it. I like to follow up with a hot damp flannel to make sure all the residue is gone.

Does it work? YES! It does a fantastic job of shifting everything with the exception of waterproof mascara. I do find I need to follow up with an oil based eye makeup remover when wearing waterproof mascara but 99% of the time this is all I need. It’s as quick and ten times more effective than a face wipe for me.

The one tiny little niggle is if my skin is feeling a bit dry this can exacerbate it ever so slightly. And I do mean slightly. I’m not even sure if it’s this that does it or if it’s the hot water and the flannel. It really is the most effective cleanser I’ve tried thus far and the fact that it hasn’t caused any skin problems makes it an absolute winner for me. Once I have run out, which will be a long way off, I will buy this again and again. I love it! Holy Grail? Could be actually x

  1. Haven't tried the MAC cleansing oil, but I do like the Philosophy one, which is also mineral oil free. Wish it had a pump like this one though.
