I’ve been intrigued by Burberry cosmetics ever since they
launched but somehow refrained from dropping £22.50 on one of their single
shadows (it might still happen though!). Somehow £40 for a palette of four shades
was much more *PUN ALERT* palatable. So I took some Christmas pennies and
ordered Mocha 02 (from John Lewis if you’re interested with free collection
from my local Waitrose!). I chose this quad as I thought if I was going to
spend this much on eyeshadow it should be a palette that I could in theory wear
every day and therefore really get my monies worth. I chose well!
Let’s start with the packaging shall we? Oh my goodness even
the cardboard feels expensive. It’s textured and heavy duty. But who cares
about cardboard! Not me! Not when there is an adorable little velvety ouch
inside embossed with the Burberry check with cute pockets for little tiny
makeup brushes! You get a teeny tiny blending brush (which actually is not
horrible), a sponge tip applicator and a perfectly usable angled brush.
Ordinarily I just throw out applicators that come in palettes but these are
actually perfectly good for use in a pinch.
The compact itself does not disappoint once again the steely
grey plastic has the signature check embossed on it. The plastic feels sturdy
and high quality, the magnetic closure has a very satisfying ‘snap’ to it and
the mirror is large enough to be properly useful.
As for the shadows I am in love. This is the perfect neutral
palette for me. you have a light matte cream highlight shade, a softly
shimmering golden brown, an almost but not quite matte warm medium brown and a
satin deep chestnut. On me the palette definitely pulls quite warm. On the eyes
the shades perform even better than they swatch. They are pigmented, smooth and
incredibly easy to blend. They don’t kick up any powdery fallout at all. you get 5.4g of product for your money.
What has impressed me most is the wear on these. Even though
I use a primer daily I normally do get some fading towards the end of the day,
probably because I have oily hooded lids and I tend to rub my eyes a lot. With
these my eyeshadow honestly looked as good at 8pm as it did when I applied it
at 6:30am. LOVE.
For me the palette is worth every penny. The shades a just
delicious, the quality is fantastic but more importantly it’s everything I need
in an all in one palette. I have a matte highlight (which is my preference). A lid
shade, a soft medium brown to blend through the crease and a darker shade for
the outer corner and as a liner. I don’t need anything else! My only concern is
how on earth do I choose which shades to try next?!

I love it! I want to get this gorgeous palette too :D
ReplyDeleteIt is worth every penny :) Such a lovely palette x
DeleteI have Burberry Trench eyeshadow and use it daily all over my eyes and then do liner and job done (for the eyes at least) and it's such a great eyeshadow so I can imagine how amazing this quad would be! Xx
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about Trench! I want it! x
DeleteI just love the look of this whole palette... need to save up and get myself one :) Love the colors on your eyes :)
ReplyDeleteThanks :) It's such a basic wearable palette that I don't think you can go wrong x
DeleteI've been lusting this since its release! I'm also looking at the Spicy one but I'm afraid they'll be too similar...
ReplyDeleteno they aren't too similar. the dark spice is really darker. Mocha is only good for pale-fair-light skin tones I feel.
DeleteHaha I should have known you would have the answer Jacq :) From the pictures I've seen online I do think they look quite different x
Deleteagree. worth every single cent. it's not 'cheap'. but a lot of more expensive products don't live up to their price tag. this does! :D
ReplyDeleteSometimes you really do get what you pay for! x
