These have to be the most talked about high street makeup
release of January. They are everywhere so of course I had to go and try them
for myself. These certainly fit the current trend for lip products that blur
the line between a lipstick and a lip gloss and I wanted to see how these
stacked up against products like the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro and the Lush
Lipsticks with the wand applicators (no comparison). There are some fabulously
bright shades in the Apocalips line including some properly gorgeous reds but I
put my sensible hat on and went for two shades that I thought might be a little
easier to wear to work.
Firstly the packaging is, I think, really nice. The plastic
tubes are heavy duty and the labelling shows no signs of wearing off after me
using these heavily for a couple of weeks. The lids are faceted to resemble some
sort of cut gemstone and the doe foot applicators have a strange indentation
too them which allows them to scoop up enough product to coat your entire lips
in one swipe. I have the shade Celestial (a min toned creamy yellow based pink)
and Galaxy (a deeper mauve shade with noticeable purple leanings and barely
there pink shimmer particles).
The first thing I noticed about these is the scent. They have
a very strong plastic lip product smell to them which does take a good 10
minutes to fade away although it does eventually dissipate. I really dislike
the fragrance to be honest but other than that I love the products so I’m prepared
to overlook it. The formula is very creamy and very pigmented. The texture is
not entirely dissimilar to the Giorgio Armani lip maestro in that it feels
very, very comfortable and creamy on the lips although the Apocalips are have a
glossier finish. The colour is opaque in one swipe.
The wear time is where these differ from the Armani,
probably because these are glossier on the lips. I find I get about 2-3 hours
of wear before I want to reapply these and they do transfer quite heavily onto
coffee mugs etc. I’m not necessarily saying this is a negative because as far
as I know these are not marketed as long wear products. I find that they wear
off evenly rather than leaving me with a ring of product left around my lips. I
do not find these drying at all. If anything I think they are forgiving on
slightly dry lips. I don’t find that I need to exfoliate my lips to within an
inch of their life to wear these. Here they are on the lips (Celestial on top
then Galaxy on the bottom).
I really like these. The opaque colour looks great with
minimal effort and they are just so comfortable to wear. If you can overlook the
fragrance issue these are definitely worth having a look at. These currently
retail for £5.99.
*I bought these*

I've heard so much about these. I'm trying to stick to my spending ban and not purchase. Love both the colours you picked. Celestial is one I'm eying up. X
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be on every blog at the moment! Love Celestial for work but I'm actually loving Galaxy more. It's such an unusual shade on me! x
