Sample Sunday January Round Up

I have a drawer in my room crammed full of products that I haven’t opened yet and samples that I have picked up along the way. To cut a long story short it’s full so I need to empty it out and use some things up! I made a bit of a dent in January and thought it might be worth mentioning whether each sample did what it is supposed to do i.e. made me want to rush out and buy the full size.

Veet Hair Minimising Body Moisturiser – This claims to minimise the appearance of hair regrowth whilst aloe vera moisturises the skin. Now I’m not particularly hirsute so I’m not particularly interested in minimising regrowth, nor would I expect a single sachet to achieve that (you have to use it regularly to see that effect). As a body lotion though I did not like it. I found the formula left a greasy, oily film on my skin and took a long time to sink in. So I won’t be buying the full size. The full size costs £6.99 for 400ml.

Algenist Triple Action Micropolish & Peel – This was a bit of a treatment in that you apply a fair amount to clean skin and massage to allow the micro-crystals to exfoliate then you leave it on for 3-5 minutes to allow the Alguronic acid (whatever that may be) to do its thing. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I found the micro-crystals far too harsh. They were actually scratchy! Yet when I rinsed it off after 5 minutes my skin looked so clear! All the black heads across my nose were vastly diminished and my skin appeared much less congested. Given how scratchy it felt though I’m not tempted by the full size (£58.50).

Zelens Transformer Instant Renewal Mask  - I’ve reviewed this before here and my opinion remains the same. My skin was left feeling plump and nourished but plenty of other products leave my skin feeling the same way and they don’t cost £120!

Algenist Concentrated Reconstructing Serum – Now this I could be tempted by. This is one of those serums that instantly hydrates and makes you seriously consider skipping your moisturiser. My skin drank this up! I thoroughly enjoyed using this although at £72 I’d have to be feeling very flush to part with the cash! (Space NK give the best samples don’t they?)

Marshmallow Blends Pink sugar Body Butter – I reviewed this here. Smells gorgeous but just not quite moisturising enough for my scaly winter legs. There are other products I would buy again from the brand but sadly this isn’t quite doing it for me.

Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Exceptional Complete Care Cream – I hate to go all Negative Nancy on you but I found this moisturiser to be anything but exceptional. It is very heavily scented so it stung my skin a little on application and honestly? It wasn’t all that moisturising. It’s just not right for my skin type to be honest. *STOP PRESS* I JUST GOOGLED THIS TO CHECK THE PRICE AND IT COSTS £262 FOR A MEASLY 50ML JAR. Jog on Guerlain. Jog on.

  1. You're brilliant with using up samples and giving your take on them. The Guerlain cream....just ugh.
